Appointed to chair SAIC in early 2018, David has a portfolio of non-executive roles in food and science related businesses and organisations. These include being non-executive director of Boparan Holdings (2 Sisters Food Group) and chairman of Acoura.

David brings to the position over four decades’ experience spanning the entire food chain from agriculture to aquaculture, fisheries through to food production and retail to food service. He has also had close involvement with science and research funding through his role as a member of the Governing Council of the BBSRC (Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council), as current President of the Institute of Food Science and Technology, and as Trustee and former Chairman of the British Nutrition Foundation.

Before developing this portfolio, David spent 26 years working for Marks & Spencer from where he retired as Technical Director in 2009. During his time at M&S, he was instrumental in a number of nutrition, innovation and sustainability initiatives and was one of the co-authors of Plan A – the widely recognised industry-leading eco plan.
